ATLANTA — Georgia State University Doctoral Student, Joint Special Operations University Non-Resident Fellow, and Transcultural Conflict and Violence Presidential Fellow, Sonny Patel presented at the International Risk and Crisis Communication Conference, which was held from March 10th to 12th at Clemson University. During his presentation, he shared insights gained from his ongoing collaboration with colleagues regarding U.S. Southeastern Hurricanes and community resilience. His research, titled “Military Communication in Times of Crisis: Lessons from the National Guard’s Response to the 2024 Hurricanes in Florida and North Carolina,” represents a collaborative effort with colleagues that examines the evolution of military and disaster communications since Hurricane Katrina. The research focuses specifically on recent emergency response operations.
In addition to his attendance at IRCCC, Patel was featured on FOX Carolina News, where he discussed the preparedness and the response in the wake of disasters, most recently with Hurricane Helene.
