NEW YORK — Georgia State University, Professor of Communication and Middle East Studies; and Transcultural Conflict and Violence Faculty Member, Dr. Mia Bloom took part in a panel discussion at the 2024 Global Summit on Terrorism and Political Violence. The inaugural Global Summit on Terrorism and Political Violence was hosted by The Soufan Center, took place from September 12 to 13 in New York, New York. This invitation-only event brought together leaders from the United States government, intelligence community, international organizations, academia, media, and other key sectors to discuss emerging security challenges and enhance counterterrorism efforts. The Global Summit underscored the urgent need to prevent the United States from regressing to a pre-September 11, 2001, state of unpreparedness in the face of a rapidly evolving terrorist threat landscape.
In this panel, ‘Framing Remarks’ Bloom discusses the importance of competition between and across terrorist groups and strategies that Counterterrorism practitioners should be paying attention to. The panel was moderated by Dr. Colin P. Clarke, Senior Research Fellow, The Soufan Center and featured Bloom, along with panelist Dr. Barak Mendelsohn, Professor of Political Science, Haverford College, Dr. Daisy Muibu, Assistant Professor of Security Studies, Africa Center for Strategic Studies and Dr. Amira Jadoon, Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science, Clemson University.
