ATLANTA – Georgia State University has been awarded a grant of $600,000 from Air Force Office of Scientific Research. The new grant will fund a 3 year-long effort led by Dr. Anthony Lemieux, Dr. Carol Winkler and Dr. Dror Walter to research the nexus of how adversarial online media ecosystems strategically target global audiences. The research titled Long and De-Stabilizing Shadows: The Identity Shaping Power of Media Systems and Their Impact on Global Security will generate understandings of online strategic interconnections in their global outreach between adversary types and point to evolving adversarial media strategies to mitigate malign effects.
Lemieux and Winkler are Professors of Communication and Walter is Assistant Professor of Digital Communications, and all three are members of the Transcultural Conflict and Violence Initiative. They will be joined by colleagues Kareem El-Damanhoury and Michael Loadenthal, along with multiple Presidential Fellows at GSU.
